Ne te gêne pas!

Why couldn't I just say "No"?! Colleague going to Europe for two weeks (work, but still...) who never even responded to any of my emails in the fall when I was sick with bronchitis and needed people to pleasepleasepleaseplease sub for me wants her classes to sit in with mine while she's gone. Even to the point of finding different rooms if possible so that we aren't violating fire codes.

WTF?? Heaven forbid YOU put yourself out even slightly, even occasionally, for MY needs...

I'm especially sensitive to this issue as it is monumentally hard to get people to cover you here at this school. It is one of the few things that are worse here than where I used to be (but, weirdly, all the stuff that IS worse here is this kind of thing: practical concerns like covering each other or colleague communication habits, etc. - gah!!!). Where I was before we would cover each other, No Question, anytime someone was sick or had a conference or something, and everyone just understood that you would owe that person back, etc.

This is fucked up. (Added sting is that it's the person who basically anti-helped me for my big project last year.)

I guess next time I'm sick I shouldn't have any compunction about calling her directly and saying - hey so can you sub for me since I covered your ass Spring 2010?

"Gosh it's such a big drag going to Europe in the middle of the semester; if it weren't for the program I would go another time." yeah whatever. You're lovin' it; just fucking admit it.
