I'm leaving tonight for a wedding and I won't be able to do homework except for today. Please tell me details for Monday's quiz and composition assignment. If I don't have the info by the time I leave today I might have to turn in the composition late.
Let's not address the fact that this came on a day when I had back-to-back meetings and classes from 8am to 7pm. Neither let us dwell on how I was nursing a huge headcold and had to sleep for a while when I got home. We won't talk about how the second of my two windows of time for checking email was at a point in the day when our university email server was down for the millionth time (don't get me started on the discrepancy between IT functionability and IT academia at this bastion of computer science). All this is beside the fact, too, that the compo materials were in need of revision before posting to WebCT so even had I had an extra 10 minutes somewhere, it would not have been enough to accommodate this student's request. I revised and posted the info in question around 2am finally (not for her, it was already on my to-do list anyway in point of fact, tho still too late for her deadline).
I could go on but instead here was my response this morning...
...Please note that there are no late turn-in's for compositions. That being said, contacting someone at the last minute about something where a time limit is involved is risky. I assume you knew of the wedding date in advance, so ideally you would have spoken to me about it at least a week prior to your departure if there were course materials you knew you would need beforehand and you didn't see on WebCT. If you had contacted me even one day earlier I could have accommodated your request. As it is, I posted all the info in question as soon as I possibly could so the deadline for the compo will stand."E" for effort I guess.
