In their infinite wisdom the campus food service people continue to ignore the fact that even tho it's called "Dead Day" many people are still working, namely faculty and staff in our hugeass building. Even more incomprehensible probably is the fact that I forgot this this morning and therefore did not go to the downtown coffee shop on my way in to get my morning biberon, but that's neither here nor there since I feel like bitching and nothing is going to get in my way, even (especially?:)) my own shortcomings. Anyway I proceeded to my favorite pop machine (OK a few personal shortcomings will still be in evidence but whatever), the one that has little shelves in the window so you can see your pop slide over and take the little elevator down to the dispenser hole in the front of the machine. I put my money in and started to make my selection only to discover that it no longer has pop in it; it's full of weird energy drinks instead. Sure I should have looked up but Hello!?! No caffeine in my system yet! Anyway then I had to make it give my money back which it did, all in quarters ($2 worth). The pop machine guy had just filled the two other machines and so when I (more carefully this time) changed machines and made sure there was pop, put my money in, pushed the button... Well there was a pop but of course the fricking inconsiderate con had put all the new pops in front so it was not chilled. (The old pop guy in our building, who I had a crush on the first 3 years here, always put the new ones in the back.) Luckily the old standby, our college bookstore (who, sure, has been the victim of many a tirade on my part for other things but whatever) is open during finals week and luckily they have big coolers of beverages where you can do a temp check before grabbing the bottle of your choice.
Aaaargh. Of course none of this has to do with teaching except for the fact that as usual, everything revolves around the student. I submit that faculty/staff are just as important, but I'm obviously among the minority.
