Ingredients: anger, joys, despair, futility, smiles, tears, bad language, humor, sarcasm, dread, delight and everything else entailed in teaching Core Curriculum to the wondrously irresponsible undergrad entitlement generation we have in U.S. colleges today (or at least in huge-ass universities like mine whose only care is football).

so a student just wrote
asking for a rec. letter, which I'm happy to supply as she is a very diligent and serious student, yadda yadda yadda.... the wacky part is where she said the reason she approached me is I'm the "most influential instructor or professor I've had so far here" to which I say, with neither false modesty nor self-criticism: yikes! If a poor little Master's-holding, core curr.-teaching instructor has actual influence on things on this campus we're in big trouble. Conversely, if a poor little Master's-holding, core curr.-teaching instructor really is her most influential so far then I would hate to see who her other instructors were...
