too little, too late

Student missed every class until now and I for whatever reason just kept missing his name on the list (doing my signup sheet and just comparing to the lists every few days – I have no idea how it happened) anyway I asked the coordinator to drop him but I get an email from the student yesterday that he’s coming to see me and make stuff up!!?!?!?!

I of course let him know that that is not possible w/o documentation... he says he had a viral infection so it would have done no good to go to the Doctor.... Oh, and apparently that kept him from contacting me as well?

I have no idea what he told the coord. so that he avoided being dropped – I'm half afraid to tho. Is there some rule somewhere that if we don’t catch it after the first three class meetings, we are stuck with these idiots?

He also says he was supposed to take the lower level but there wasn’t a time that suited! Oh joy! He’s coming to office hours for me to “help [him] catch up.” I reminded him about the absence policy (2 points off their final grade for every unexcused beyond 3...) which I would probably partially waive except for his never having contacted me, and he knows he cannot make up any of the quizzes or compo we have already had... Hopefully all of this will convince him to FUCKING DROP ALREADY.
