Called on Sophie today and when she did the questions we were making completely incorrectly and I said, "Follow the format we talked about before. Here it is on the board. Follow this exactly and you'll be fine."
"I can't see the board."
Nuf said, apparently, because she had nary another thing to add the whole class. Vision impairment in Sophie's mind is obviously an auto-out, since she sits in the very back of the room and has a clear shot to the board, but is physically unable to see it and yet never thought to call this to my attention, much less to that of a qualified vision specialist. Probably the only thing that saved her til today is the fact that I write precious little on the board as a rule (something they used to love to gripe about on RMP).
I'd like to be able to have some kind of academic hysterical blindness next time a bunch of them want stuff from me.
"I can't see any of you."
Certainly that would release me from any and all responsibility.
