impressive and lamentable

The impressive part is that in all my years of teaching since the cell phone arrived in everyone's life today is the first day that a student sat at the beginning of class (prior to classtime that is when everyone's getting ready, doing their last minute cramming for the quiz, etc.) talking Fairly Loudly in a convo that most of us would deem unfit for public consumption (gossiping about a roommate or someone, none too laudingly). Of course the lamentable part is in there, too, for you to discern. Granted we weren't doing anything yet but it's still distracting for the rest of us, plus... um... where's the personal discretion sensor???

Happy to say that despite the occasional ringer no one has actually talked on one during class.

Just trying to look on the bright side - you know me! Nothing if not optimistic about student behaviour!! :)

And where would we be without that little ray of sunshine whenever we think about Them? How embarrassing for that girl! (You don't have to tell us, but, I am going to go ahead and be presumptious). Young women today feel a need to share every friggin' detail of their lives with all of us who would really rather not hear it.

Yes, I should stop typing now. The glare of that damn sunshine is making me squint. ;)

tee hee - I know! and this from a student who is pretty hard-pressed to respond in class and seems quite shy in fact... granted for. lang. can bring that out in people (or is bringing shyness out an oxymoron?) but still... I kinda didn't know she could talk so much til she was on the phone that day. oh la la la la.
